I'm excited to share with you a Houston wedding makeup artist that I met through The Rising Tide Society! Ashley is super sweet and can work magic with makeup brushes! I was thrilled when she said yes to being featured on the blog and answering a few questions that I thought could help any 2017 bride out. So without further ado, here's Ashley!
Here's a little bit about Ashley:
A|G Makeup Artistry is based in Houston TX but is an on-location studio that travels to clients across the US. Ashley’s passion for making women feel gorgeous and for makeup can truly be seen through her work. She has an excellent attention to detail that is assured to make you feel your absolute prettiest no matter what the occasion! Her favorite part of the session is when a client looks in the mirror for the first time and has an automatic boost in confidence.
When Ashley isn't playing with makeup, you can find her spending time with her husband Mario and 3 kids, Cruz, Adia and Stella. Family is the most important to her and she loves that this "job" gives the flexibility to spend time and be there for them. She also loves watching impractical jokers while eating anything chocolate!
When do you recommend the bride should get her makeup and hair done on their wedding day?
I accommodate small and large bridal parties. No matter the size of the party, we always have the bride sit in our chair last. I like for the bride to have a chance to sit and really relax before she goes down the aisle. Most people say getting their makeup done does just that. It also helps to assure she's looking flawless before she gets her dress on.
If the bride chooses a down style, we typically will have her sit down first to get all of the curls pinned up in her hair then we come back to her at the end. This gives the hair time to cool and a chance for the style to really set especially if their natural hair is straight or doesn't hold curl well.
That's great advice! What trend are you seeing so far for your 2017 brides?
For 2017, the top trends we are seeing for hair- still lots of braids but also more and more detailed headpieces. We love it because it's just one more thing to add dimension to the style. Our brides have done an excellent job in choosing beautiful hair pins, combs and floral crowns for their big day. As far as makeup, we are still loving metallic shadows- rose golds and bronzey tones are what most brides are requesting this year.
I love that! Is there something you would like brides to know before their wedding day? Maybe some advice for things to go as smooth as possible?
My biggest piece of advice for a smooth wedding day would be to just relax. We are taking the hard part off your hands! Getting your hair and makeup done Is such a fun part of the day! We love what we do and it reflects in our work. Once you are out of our chair, the goal is to feel like an enhanced version of yourself and hopefully a little more relaxed.
That's perfect advice and I couldn't agree more! The key is hiring someone who you trust and are comfortable with so you are able to have fun with your bridesmaids. A big thank you to Ashley for taking the time to answer these questions and meet with me for a quick photoshoot!
